The Official Fuel of the NHRA

Sunoco & the NHRA

Sunoco, the Official Fuel of NHRA, is the exclusive provider of racing fuel for a variety of NHRA racing classes: Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle. Our racing fuels can always be counted on to deliver maximum performance—it’s why the best drivers in the world choose Sunoco.

Sunoco Fuel Facts

NHRA differs from other forms of auto racing because of the diversity of the vehicles and competitors at each event. Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars use Sunoco Nitromethane to produce over 10,000 horsepower and will cover 1,000 feet in less than 4 seconds at speeds reaching over 320 MPH.  To do this each car uses approximately 12 gallons of Nitro on a single pass, which equates to 12 gallons of fuel in about 4 seconds. Pro Stock uses Sunoco SR18 exclusively to produce well over 1,000 horsepower and cover the quarter mile in a little more than 6 seconds at speeds approaching 215 MPH.  Sunoco SR18 is also used to fuel the Pro Stock Motorcycle class on their runs of about 7 seconds approaching 200 MPH.
