TOP TIER™ was developed by leading automakers, including BMW, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi. These manufacturers support the program because enhanced detergent levels help reduce engine deposits and promote long-term engine cleanliness. A 2016 AAA study reinforced these benefits, finding that engines using TOP TIER™ gasoline accumulated 19 times fewer intake valve deposits than engines using gasoline that only met minimum EPA detergent requirements.
